9800 GTX's are particularly cheap. About $300 from newegg or tiger, probably cheaper at your local store.

The benches are < 10 FPS max settings for many popular titles compared to the GX2, almost 2x its price. Most cases less than a 5 FPS decrease. 3 GTX's in tri-sli are faster than 2 9800 GX2s in SLI. Check it out.

Comparitively speaking, an 8600 GTS about 4 months ago was about the same price.
